I don’t often recommend opening a chardonnay and leaving it sitting for hours to breath in the bottle as only a small amount of wine is actually being exposed to air. The best thing to do is open the chardonnay and slowly pour it into an Allure wine decanter, thus aerating the chardonnay without shocking it into life after its restful aging process.

Wine is a living thing, and it’s condition will change during the aging process. Inside a bottle the Chardonnay will age naturally as it is well protected from oxidation caused by exposure to air. Some oxidation of Chardonnay wine however, just prior to consumption, is in order so that the wine will open up and release all its complex flavors. In this situation oxidation is not an issue and you can achieve this controlled oxidation by using a decanter.

What happens when you pour Chardonnay into a decanter is that you aerate the wine which helps it to “breath”.
